    Hello, I’m Heather Lounsbury.

WordPress Designer, Developer, and Chief Operating Officer at NerdPress.

    Some random facts about me…

    I’m a scientist at heart.

I’m a huge science nerd with a pair of biology degrees in Human Biological Sciences and Medical Laboratory Science.

The Scientific Method appeals to my very literal brain. I love evidence-based research and read about genetics, microbiology, and cellular biology for fun.

    I’m a failed blogger.

I tried blogging but I’d rather write technical SOPs than a blog article any day.

But while I was trying to launch a blog, I couldn’t find a WordPress theme I loved. So, I decided to build my own. I took a few web design and development courses and that was it for me. I love coding and design.

My web dev hobby turned into a business which I ran for six years. Eventually, I got tired of being my own boss and a solopreneur. So, I started applying for remote WordPress jobs.

Now I’m the Chief Operating Officer at NerdPress.

I feel truly fortunate to have landed at NerdPress. I have an amazing boss and I enjoy passing every day working with an awesome team to provide support for hard-working online publishers.

I’m incredibly proud of how we’ve grown in the last 3 years. Our team and company culture make it a joy to “go” to work every day.

I drink a lot of coffee. A LOT of coffee. Probably too much coffee.

But it’s safer for everyone that way. My family, friends, and team members know it’s best not to talk to me before my second cup of coffee.

I tried to quit coffee cold turkey once. A doctor (who I didn’t particularly like because his bedside manner sucked) told me not to quit coffee. So, naturally, I now use this advice to justify my coffee habit.

    I also read a lot.

My book addiction is almost as dire as my caffeine habit. I read five to seven books per week. Yes, I read fast. No, I haven’t taken a speed reading course. Yes, my reading comprehension and recall are very good. No, I can’t tell you how I do it. It’s just the way my brain has always worked.

I’m not a big fan of TV or social media. When I do watch a show, it’s most likely The Great British Baking Show, a documentary, or a sci-fi series.

    I have itchy feet.

No, I don’t have a medical condition affecting my toes.

I really love to travel and see new places. If too much time passes without being able to take a trip and go on a new adventure, I get restless.

I prefer spontaneous trips without much of an agenda. My trip bucket list includes Alaska, the Galapagos Islands, Australia, Scotland, and Madagascar (plus many, many more).

I have a habit of turning my hobbies into side hustles.

Web design and development started as a hobby that I turned into a business. If there’s a way to turn a hobby into a side gig, my brain will try to find it.

These days, I try to limit myself to hobbies that can’t be monetized. Currently, I’m brushing up on my French and enjoying math puzzles.

I’m mom to two amazing kiddos.

Being a parent is the hardest and best thing I’ve ever done. My son and daughter amaze me and drive me crazy on a daily basis.

I love seeing them learn new things about the world and exploring it with them. They both are brilliant and kind, stubborn and silly, brave and strong. And always, always curious. They ask a thousand questions each day that make me look at the world through new eyes.

WordPress Full Site Editing: Initial Thoughts

I started designing and developing WordPress themes over a decade ago. I like hand-coding themes from scratch using PHP, HTML, and CSS. I’m also someone who doesn’t always deal well with change. Although, I do generally like learning new…
